“….” He watched Dick with a blank expression, silently thinking for a moment. “I blame the lack of morphine. I told you, and I do hate repeating myself.. I am indebted to him, and he won’t allow me to forget. He can take away my life any time he choses.” Tim stopped, leaning back and remaining silent for a few minutes as he tried to subdue the pain merely through will. “…I can’t die… until I kill him first. And after he’s gone, I’ll have no purpose in living.
“Let me help you, you don’t have to be afraid anymore…and your life is yours alone. He can’t have something that belonged to you to begin with…Tim I can be there for you.” He placed his hand on top of Tim’s, knowing full well because of the cuffs there was really to place for Tim to move his hands away.
“My life is his. When I lost it he gave me a second chance. I don’t accept any more help. I don’t need more debts.” Tim flinched reasonably as Dick brushed over the incisions Damian had carved into his skin. He grit his teeth, grunting lightly. Even if he had morphine, he was sure it’d still be painful.
“I’m not saying you have to be indebted to me. I don’t do this to get a favor back.” he retracted the fingers, understanding instantly that he was hurting Tim.
Tim took in a deep breath, counting down in his head before glancing at Dick. “It… is not a matter of you wanting something… I will know I ‘owe’ you from saving me from my fate. And I can’t allow either of those things to happen.”
“I don’t understand the reasoning of this…” he frowned, flipping through the channels.
Tim sighed rather than insulting the other. “It means— I’m going to die an unnatural and most likely painful death, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.”

Things You See In a Graveyard

“A weapon? But you don’t possess any powers? Insight? Nothing? What allows you to control the bird? Watch others and their… souls?” He shuffled his feet, readjusting his weight but otherwise remained in the same position. “You sound an awful lot like someone I know. Though.. less in denial.”
“Ah ah. I didn’t say weapon is the only thing I use, did I? Nope~” She nodded back at the tombstone, raven flying towards it to perch on the said ring blade which would otherwise be invisible and hidden.
“Well, I raised these ravens - they see me as the authority figure, the broodmother. Obedience comes from attachment. They don’t even need much control, just short commands. You know how intelligent even average corvids are, right~? On par with dolphins, monkeys, the lot. It’s really underestimated sometimes. So I taught them to be sentries and spies. Simple.”
She smirked a little, appearing more relaxed and casual than Tim was, half-skipping in a little semi-circle, for she hated just standing still.
“I’m Malfested! Purpose of ou—my “improved” kind was to gather souls. Often including devouring them. Not that I’m after yours, don’t fret, but - that’s why I can feel it. An’ it never was in people’s favour, either, hee. Demons, monsters, yadda yadda. As for another lil’ perk, it’s immortality - I’m not sure what age you assumed I am, but it’s likely wa-a-ay off the actual one~”
She curiously raised an eyebrow at his comment of reminding him of somebody. “Oh? Friend, foe?”
It was a lot to take in but Tim listened carefully, noting each and every part and observing her closely. Tim wasn’t a big talker himself, but he would be more than happy to listen if it meant he could learn something. “Well.. you’re such an interesting being youself, I’m even more flattered that you would show an interestin me— or rather my soul, as you stated.” He quirked a brow at her final question, thinking. “..More of foe I supose. Though to me it’s all the same..”

“I’m not trying to do anything…I’m just enjoying some TV.” Dick smiled at Tim again “oh come on his jokes are pretty funny”
“They’re childish.” He continued to stare at the screen, bored. “I’m not blind to it. There’s nothing to find underneath this. It’s been too many years in the making. So let me save you the time. Even if you were to find something, there’s a much more frightening force at work than your murderous little brother.”
What Tim had said snapped him away from the TV “A more frightening force? What do you mean by that?” He furrowed his brows as he stared into Tim’s eyes…trying to read him.
Tim didn’t bat an eye, staring back with the same bored expression. He sighed. “Everyone is the way the are for a reason. A larger force that.. influences their choices in life.” He paused to catch his breath, breathing slowly. “To me… it’s looming behind me.. always checking if I’m on point, threatening to take away what it’s given me.”
“This sounds like a person instead of just something…who is it then?”
“Hah… I bet you’d just love to know.”
“I would actually, I want to know what’s hurting you so bad you’re afraid. Because you are, I can see it in your eyes.”

Dick’s resolve shattered at the words. “Maybe I caught you on a bad day. I can tell the nurse to give you more if that helps with the pain…”
“A bad day? Have you ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe I mean it? That there’s nothing worth saving?” He gave a soft snort. “Do whatever relieves your guilt. I don’t care.”
“I don’t have any guilt towards you Tim.” he smiled at him “This is not done out of guilt, I just can’t watch my baby brother turn his life this way.” He hummed lightly as if things were okay between the two of them. ”wanna watch TV?”
“Are you a moron? I’m not your brother. I never have been.” Tim looked at him incredulously, he couldn’t do anything to stop the man, but that didn’t mean he had to make it easy. “I don’t watch television. It’s a waste of time and braincells.”
“No no there are funny things” He clicked to the comedy channel “Oh this guy is pretty funny…” he leaned over on the bed and rested his head on his hand, chuckling at the jokes that the comedian was saying.
Tim stared at the tv, unamused then glanced at Dick. “I know what you’re trying to do. It’s not going to work.”
